Position Summary
As a Research Scientist you will be investigating innovative product / process concepts through applied research and provide scientific contributions to product / process development projects. You will be mainly working in the field of powdered products, leveraging your technical expertise on dry processing of food powders (e.g. spray drying).
A Day in the Life of a Research Scientist
- Plan and execute scientific experiments and projects to develop new concepts of potential business importance
- Contribute to project work, e.g. through project management, scientific advice, required analyses and technical assistance
- Document and communicate results in reports, presentations, NesTMS etc.
- Apply, build and maintain knowledge / expertise in the field of powder science & drying technologies; keep up with developments in aligned research fields, scientific and analytical disciplines
- Assess, elaborate, transfer methods (traditional, rapid)
- Maintain scientific / analytical network; liaise with other R&D units
- Represent NPTC Nutrition / Nestlé in field of expertise
- Provide leadership, focus and motivational support to laboratory team · Integrate and coach collaborators (e.g. lab technicians, apprentices, master students)
- Assist Group Manager in recruiting, integrating, coaching and developing people
- Assure Good Laboratory Practice and efficient laboratory operation
What will make you successful
- Ph.D. in Food Science, Food Engineering (or a related discipline) or equivalent experience in R&D
- Several years of experience in managing R&D projects or activities, preferably in the food industry.
- Experience on functional properties of food powders and their characterization
- Strong knowledge of drying and powder handling technologies.
- Advanced scientific / technical know-how in data analysis and visualization
- Excellent understanding of digital tools for research
- Fluent in written and spoken English, German is a plus
- Good leadership and people management skills, at ease with frequent scope change
- Excellent communication skills
