LABORATORY ADMINISTRATION ASSISTANT
JOB DESCRIPTION
**THE POSITION:**
Laboratory Administration Assistant.
**RESPONSIBLE TO:**
The Operations Manager or nominee.
**RESPONSIBLE FOR:**
- Complying with all Company rules, policies, procedures, Spectro Methods and codes of practice.
- Wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment provided.
- Maintaining quality control checks and good housekeeping practices in each area that they work.
- Ensuring before use, laboratory equipment is calibrated and fit for purpose.
**LIMIT OF RESPONSIBILITY:**
Purchase requisitions shall be countersigned by an authorised signatory. Only authorised to operate equipment for which the job holder has current and up to date approval.
**SUMMARY:**
This position has the responsibility for receiving and unpacking laboratory samples and for booking the samples in to the database. Assist the Laboratory Technicians with the collection of test results and the data entry of results into the computer database. This is a key role in the Quality System requiring the processes to be completed in an efficient and timely way to enable the Laboratory Technicians to meet the sample turn-around time.
**GENERAL DESCRIPTION:**
To become part of a team and carry out the various duties as directed. Some of the duties listed below involve manual lifting and the use of a respirator:
- Receiving and unpacking samples.
- Receiving and communicating other deliveries and distributing as needed.
- Booking samples in to the database.
- Pouring samples for testing.
- Maintaining the label supplies.
- Helping with sample disposal.
- Assisting the Laboratory Assistants, and/or Laboratory Technicians.
- Maintaining records.
- Progressing test samples.
- Keeping the booking-in area clean and tidy.
- Assisting with the clearing of packaging to the waste area.
- Liaising between Booking-in, the Reporting, and Lab teams.

**QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:**
The job holder should:
- be an accurate, careful, and methodical worker,
- be able to work to deadlines,
- have neat handwriting and a good standard of Maths and English (written and spoken),
- be PC literate and have some experience in the use of Microsoft Office,
- be able to work in a team and to communicate with all levels of staff,
- have a flexible attitude towards the type of work undertaken,
- be familiar with and committed to quality assurance.
Previous experience working in a goods-in, booking-in, or data entry environment would be an advantage but not essential.
